Quoth the Professor...
During Spanish class this past Thursday we were discussing the Muslim occupation of Spain and its influence on Spanish culture. During the course of this discussion we came to the rise of the Christian Monarchs and the expansion of Catholicism/Christendom at which point my professor states:
"You see, they knew exactly how to handle them. They never had to worry about terrorism. If they didn't convert, they put them to the sword. Simple as that."
So, what do you do with a 637 year old professor, who obviously feels that Islam is a blood thirsty cult that needs to be eradicated from the face of the planet, and feels the need to share this idea with others?... During class time?
Man, I hate this semester.

I guess unrevised history just ain't your thing.
well, I'll just say there's not much in christian history that would make me very proud to be called one of them either.
Crusades
Capitalism
Slavery
Genocide
Sit-Coms
Homophobia
Pro-Life (anti-choice) movement
Women's Supression/Opression
Hypocrisy
Rabid theocracy and religious fundamentalism exists in every culture in every religion. It's not limited to Islam nor is it limited to Christianity, but seems to me to be universal.
Seems to me that religion is the most divisive institution in the world. If we could create a world without religion, we may be able to find peace.
I agree, only in the sense that Man's sin and Man inspired wisdom has led to death and suffering. What you call religion however is a broad brush you willfully use. I wonder why?
Crusades yep, man inspired wisdom killings.
Capitalism Free market's work better, no?
Slavery Been to Africa recently?
Genocide a little help?
Sit-Coms sure, ok :)
Homophobia Please define this word and I'll be happy to help you understand what you clearly have refused to accept as truth.
Pro-Life (anti-choice) movement Your right! Those crazy Christians think the life of an unborn baby is, ahh a life. I doubt you will find many ashamed 'Christians' on that point.
Women's Supression/Opression
Sorry my friend. The teachings of Christ did more for women than any man ever has.
Hypocrisy yeh ok, that is exclusive to followers of Christ. That is exclusive to Man, no one religion.
You say Seems to me that religion is the most divisive institution in the world.
For starters, 'religion' is not an institution. I wish you knew more about how Christ united His children (i.e. Jew and Gentile). Make no mistake, Christ will indeed return and seperate the wheat from the chaff. That is never a Christian's job or duty. Nor will a follower of Christ re-write His teachings to fit Man inspired wisdom.
If we could create a world without religion, we may be able to find peace.
Now that sounds like Supression and Opression to me. Your desire for peace will never be realized here on earth without the eternal gift of Christ's saving grace. I hope one day you seek that, I really do.
Heaven will be filled with sinners, but human pride and worldly wisdom will not be allowed.
peace!
the slaughter of the followers of Islam is acceptable if they do not come to Christ, but the other way around is unacceptable? How does killing Muslims for not forsaking their religion make Christians any different from the Islamic extremists?
I will never come to the "truth" of Christ, nor of any other religion.
I prefer to make my own judgments on the way to treat others based on my sense of humanity and equality, not a creed that someone else has told me is correct.
If you feel the need to pray for my soul, then by all means, do so. But know this, I would rather spend the rest of eternity in a torture worse than hell, than to judge someone based on a life that they are happy in. This world has enough hate and enmity, I don't see a need to find another reason to hate anyone else.
you are correct, i should amend my statement...
as long as it makes them happy, and doesn't interfere with the well being of others.
Ascertaining Right from Wrong is not hate.
You are correct, but it is what you choose to do with that information and how you ascertain what is right from wrong that can be hateful.
And advocating putting Muslims to the sword because they won't come to Christ sounds pretty hateful to me.

You keep making this same statement. Who are you refering to these people who advocate this? I know not one follower of Christ that advocates any forced conversion. That's actually anti-christ.
"You see, they knew exactly how to handle them. They never had to worry about terrorism. If they didn't convert, they put them to the sword. Simple as that."
What does that say to you?
